Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease two round 9-inch cake pans.
  2. In a mixing bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. In another bowl, mix together vegetable oil, sugar, eggs, buttermilk, vanilla extract, and red food coloring until well combined.
  4. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture and stir gently until just combined.
  5. Divide the batter evenly between the prepared pans and bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  6. Allow cakes to cool in pans for 10 minutes before transferring to wire racks. Once cooled, frost between layers and on top with cream cheese frosting.
